The Most Fulfilling Careers in Human Services

Are you someone who feels unsatisfied with your current career path or job? This can be a frustrating place to be, no doubt about it. Maybe it is time to consider stepping outside of your comfort zone and making a career transition. You have probably heard some version of the quote that it is better to be at the bottom of a ladder that you actually want to climb than at the top of a ladder that you do not even want to be on. Maybe you heard this quote on The Office or you read it in a textbook or newspaper. Regardless of the source, the sentiment is worth noting. Making a career transition can be overwhelming, but there could be an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling path for you on the other side of that transition. For some people, the transition involves jumping from one industry to another. If you are personally drawn to being of service and making a difference in the lives of others, perhaps you should consider a career in human services. Here is a breakdown of some of the most fulfilling careers within the sector.

Exploring Accessibility and Neurodiversity

  • Autism

Maybe you have a family member with Autism Spectrum Disorder or perhaps you are simply driven to support and uplift children on the spectrum. Consider looking at a continuing education course relating to autism and applied behavioural analysis. Autism courses are a great way to educate yourself on the current trends, challenges and ethical considerations of working in the field.

  • Dyslexia

There are so many diverse learning styles and challenges that people engage with on a regular basis. When it comes to reading and writing, varying forms of dyslexia are a common challenge that children and adults must work through. By undergoing dyslexia training, you can learn about the general indicators and symptoms of dyslexia, how to combat popular myths and how to engage with proper evaluation and appropriate interventions for dyslexia.

  • Registered Behavior Technician

If you are curious about behaviour analysis and want to support children with perhaps challenging behaviours, why not try your hand at being a Registered Behavior Technician or RBT for short? RBT training covers a broad range of skills including measurement, assessment, skill acquisition, behaviour reduction, documenting, reporting, ethics, professional conduct and the scope of practice.

Making a Profound and Practical Impact

  • Recreational Therapy

Want to support people with illnesses, injuries or disabilities so that they can enjoy and benefit from recreation? Through recreational therapy programs, you can explore why leisure matters and learn about some of the common barriers that people face. A continuing education course will help you get familiar with diverse therapeutic recreation conceptual models and the core values and beliefs that ensure effective service. You can also explore the process of intervention and creating a plan or developing specific recreation programs.

  • Gerontology

Want to learn about the psychological and social changes that occur through adulthood and old age? Consider taking an online gerontology course to familiarize yourself with the core theoretical models, research methods, and latest information about ageing. Ashton College overs a foundational course in gerontology, which covers the above fundamentals and also explores existing myths about ageing in comparison to empirical evidence so that people can differentiate between myth and reality.

Becoming an Education Assistant

Are you a passionate and caring person who wants to help others and enjoys working with children in a classroom setting? Becoming an education assistant could be a great option for you. Where should you start? Consider registering for the Education Assistant Diploma Program at Ashton College. Their versatile program aims to cultivate compassion and expertise so that graduates can effectively support students with varying disabilities and aid their learning. Through an education assistant course such as this, you can develop the confidence, insight and understanding needed to have a positive impact and really make a difference in the life of a child.

Summary

So, how do you find meaning and a sense of purpose in your career? Where do you find motivation or inspiration? These are core questions that pretty much everyone has to grapple with throughout their career. Begin by finding an industry or field that inspires you and makes you want to get up out of bed in the morning to go to work. The field of human services has so many vital and fulfilling career options, which makes it a great place to start looking for your dream job.
